This is the third in my cruise series. This was another photo taken on Catalina Island, part of the Dominican Republic. I waited for the flag to block the sun, as it was hurting my eyes. It was a very hot late November day.
The Dominican Republic is part of Hispaniola, one island divided into two countries, the other being Haiti. Size: Slightly more than twice the size of New Hampshire USA (roughly 48k square kilometers) Population: Close to 9 million Life Expectancy at Birth: 67.63 years The country is 95% Roman Catholic Official Language: Spanish From the CIA web-site: "Transshipment point for South American drugs destined for the US and Europe; has become a transshipment point for ecstasy from the Netherlands and Belgium destined for US and Canada; substantial money-laundering activity; Colombian narcotics traffickers favor the Dominican Republic for illicit financial transactions." |
